Low-code platform enables fast error detection and processing of large amounts of data during backups

The Challenge

Our customer is an international aircraft manufacturer, and regular backups are naturally standard practice when using and processing digital data. When backing up from multiple different sources, there is a risk of errors going undetected or being detected too late, leading to serious data loss and costing companies time and money. In this project, an older application for collecting backup data was to be replaced because it no longer met the customer's high standards. New, additional servers could only be connected with considerable development effort. Furthermore, there was hardly any development expertise left for the outdated technology to continue operating the existing application reliably in the future. The goal was to quickly develop a modern, intuitive application tailored to the specific needs of users, which would easily manage the large amount of backups and reliably detect faulty backups.

Our solution

The new application was developed using the low-code platform Oracle APEX. The backup data should be queried directly via REST whenever possible so that the raw data can be processed according to the customer's own specifications. This is a feature that the existing application was unable to provide. Additional data sources were connected via database links. The new solution was developed using an agile process based on Scrum. In weekly meetings with the customer's employees, progress was presented, improvements were discussed, and all stakeholders were informed about the current status of the project. This ensured management support and effective collaboration.

The result

The project team was able to set up the relevant pages in APEX in a very short time, taking all individual requirements into account, and go live without any downtime issues for the customer. The new application processes large amounts of data, currently several tens of thousands of backups per day. It makes everyday work easier for employees thanks to its intuitive handling and clear presentation. The fast and reliable detection of faulty backups and the processing of large quantities of backup copies represent enormous added value for the customer. Faulty backups, such as an unusually large number, can cause additional costs. As soon as these anomalies are detected by the application, appropriate measures can be taken quickly. As a further improvement, reports can be generated via the tool to support the billing process.
