Selection of the optimal low-code platform for master data maintenance
The Challenge
The aim of the project was to support a customer from the automotive industry in selecting a suitable low-code provider for a master data maintenance application for technical vehicle monitoring requirements. The application contains countless master data records with complex interlinks and additional processes for supplementary testing software for car repair shops. A rule system determines when and how data from the master data maintenance application is used in the testing software. The software is used in-house by around 100 users.
Our solution
At the start of the project, the customer had already compiled a concrete and detailed list of requirements for the selection of a suitable low-code platform. Nevertheless, the company encountered difficulties during the evaluation. For example, it was difficult to calculate the actual costs of the respective solutions, and although some tools were well suited to specific aspects of the requirements, they did not cover the entire spectrum. In addition, it was difficult to find platforms that were actually suitable for specialist users without programming knowledge.
The result
We chose an approach similar to Planning Poker – a method that has been popular in agile projects since 2005 for estimating effort. Several of our experts individually reviewed and evaluated various tools. These evaluations were then compared with each other to identify discrepancies and correct them if necessary. The evaluation results were then presented to the customer and reviewed by them in terms of their priorities. As a result, we were able to recommend several low-code providers to increase developer productivity while better integrating the specialist department.
